Topsy Farms yarn is wonderful to work with. It is soft with natural lanolin, sturdy and alive to the hands, with fibres unbroken and almost silky.

Equivalent to worsted weight, each skein weighs 4 oz. (or 113 grams).  Since most knitting stores sell yarn in 50 gram balls, be aware that you only need half the number of skeins called for in a pattern.

Topsy Farms yarn is ideal for sweaters, mitts, toques or socks, or for creative wall hangings and other pure wool projects. It also felts beautifully.

No other fibre provides all the qualities of wool: it has enduring warmth even when wet; is breathable; and is machine washable with care. Wool deters dust mites, mould and mildew growth, and is a renewable resource.

All our wool products from Topsy Farms bring you these qualities and more – comfort, durability and natural richness to last a lifetime. Topsy Farms blankets, throws and yarn are processed from selected fleeces that have been washed in gentle soaps to preserve the wool’s natural softness. The traditional woollen mill that washes all our fleeces does not use sulphuric acid, bleach, or other harsh chemicals, which are regularly utilized in more modern mills. This is why our wool is not “prickly” – the fibres are smooth and are softened by the naturally occurring lanolin – not broken and barbed as in most commercial wool products.

Any product created from our yarn can be worn with pride, year ‘round.  All our yarn and any product created, is washable – if you follow our washing instructions.

This yarn features the Topsy Farms label – our sign that this is an authentic product and that it carries the Topsy Farms Guarantee of Excellence.

Most Canadian yarn producers purchase their yarn from overseas then dye it here. Topsy Farms’s yarn comes from their own sheep, so it truly is all Canadian.
I have purchased 6 colours of the 2-ply fine so far and am impressed with the richness of the colour, the amount of yarn in the skein and the variety of colours available. I chose topaz for the green of a field in a hat I am knitting. It is perfect for that late fall, just going dormant grass colour. I couldn’t find it anywhere else. When it comes to green most companies give you kelly and forest.
The service is also a big plus when it comes to Topsy Farms too. I spoke with both Ian and Sally on the phone. The yarn arrived quickly and I was able to get my projects finished in time for Christmas. I can also pick up this brand at Yarns Untangled in Toronto. I expect to make it a regular on my knitting list. It is great to use Canadian sheep yarn.
