Topsy Farms yarn is wonderful to work with. It is soft with natural lanolin, sturdy and alive to the hands, with fibres unbroken and almost silky.

Equivalent to worsted weight, each skein weighs 4 oz. (or 113 grams) and is roughly 200 yards long (2-ply). Since most knitting stores sell yarn in 50 gram balls, be aware that you only need half the number of skeins called for in a pattern.

Topsy Farms yarn is ideal for sweaters, mitts, toques or socks, or for creative wall hangings and other pure wool projects. It also felts beautifully.

No other fibre provides all the qualities of wool:– it has enduring warmth even when wet; is breathable; and is machine washable. Wool deters dust mites, mould and mildew growth, and is a renewable resource.

All our wool products from Topsy Farms bring you these qualities and more – comfort, durability and natural richness to last a lifetime. Topsy Farms blankets, throws and yarn are processed from selected fleeces that have been washed in gentle soaps to preserve the woolÂ’s natural softness. The traditional woollen mill that washes all our fleeces avoids using sulphuric acid and other harsh chemicals, which are regularly utilized in commercial wool processing. This is why our wool is not “prickly” – the fibres are smooth and are softened by the naturally occurring lanolin – not broken and barbed as in most commercial wool products.

Any product created from our yarn can be worn with pride, year ‘round.  All our yarn and any product created, is washable – if you follow our washing instructions.

This yarn features the Topsy Farms label – our sign that this is an authentic product and that it carries the Topsy Farms Guarantee of Excellence.

I like everything about this yarn. The color is deep and yet nuanced. It was dyed over a black fleece so it has depth. It truly is a ruby red. The yarn is sturdy yet knits up to a fabric that has a drape. Knitting with a wool yarn that has not been completely stripped of its natural lanolin is a first time treat for me as each stitch flows onto the needles. This color is just one of the many offered by Topsy Farm. If you’ve avoided wool before now… indulge now. It is soft and easy to work with. My swatches sample of the stitch I will use for my garment looks amazing.
